The Calaveras High School girls basketball program has a new coaching staff and high hopes for a bright future. We are looking to bring back the winning ways of long ago (section champions in 1975 and state champs in 1986) and not so long ago (section champions 2012).

Despite only being two years removed from the second section championship in program history, we are in a rebuilding phase after graduating eight seniors from a team of 10 players that also did not have a single junior. We won’t have any returning seniors on our team this year. Our lineup will feature a lot of underclassmen, but the girls put in a lot of work over the summer and will be ready to make the jump to the varsity level this winter.

Our goal is to be the team to beat in the Mother Lode League year in and year out. Once this young group of varsity players gets a little more experience, we will be in competition for the league championship. We are also working with our younger coaches and players in the CUSD feeder schools to build up a strong foundation for future CHS teams.

How long have you been coaching this team? First year as varsity head coach

Did you coach any other teams at Calaveras? JV girls basketball

What does it cost per year to run your program? $5-7K per year

Do you get any non-district funding? If yes, what source? Occasional help from CAB when requested.

What type of fundraising does your team do? How much do you typically raise? We held a car wash in the summer to help pay for our summer league expenses; youth girls basketball clinic; free throw-a-thon.

Wish list (anything you need to make managing your team better, easier, etc. sky is the limit) New uniforms w/ warmups; new basketballs; CHS gym floors resurfaced regularly (this is the biggest issue our basketball teams face without a doubt); fix speaker wiring in main gym and connection for ipod, sounds terrible; if sky is the limit, new gym with locker rooms attached and a foyer with attached snack bar;

Do you need any volunteer help? If yes, for what are? Always looking for helpful assistant coaches with knowledge of basketball and/or strength/conditioning; also would like to have a videographer to video tape games so we can break them down after games.
